At MKA, students keep their mobile phones in Hush pouches during the school day to help minimise distractions and maximise learning. This page provides an overview of our mobile phone policy and how it works in practice. More detailed information can be found in the FAQs and policy/procedure document at the bottom of the page.

• All students are given a personal Hush pouch to keep their mobile phone in while at school. 

• Their first Hush pouch is provided free of charge. 

• Phones must be switched off and secured in a Hush pouch during the school day.

• Students keep their pouch with them throughout the day.

• The pouch is unlocked before students leave the school site at the end of the day.

• Parents and carers can contact their children via the school office if necessary.

What is a Hush pouch?

Hush pouches are secure, signal-blocking bags used to store mobile phones and other digital devices, including smartwatches and earbuds. Each pouch contains a secure locking pin at the top, which students use to lock their pouch when they arrive at school each morning. Students unlock their pouches at the end of the day using one of several unlocking stations.

How it Works

1. On arrival at the school gate, students turn off their phones and place them in their pouch.
2. Students close their pouch and keep it with them throughout the day.
3. When leaving school, students open their pouch at an unlocking station and retrieve their phones. 

Who provides the Hush pouches?

The Academy provides all students with their first Hush pouch for free. Parents and carers will only be required to purchase a replacement pouch if it is lost or intentionally damaged. The replacement cost is £15.
