Homework at Milton Keynes Academy
Why do we set Homework?
At The Milton Keynes Academy, we believe that homework plays an important role in supporting every student’s learning journey. It helps to strengthen understanding from lessons, gives students the chance to apply their knowledge in new and creative ways, and builds independent learning habits that prepare them for future study and lifelong learning.
Homework tasks are designed to consolidate what students have already learned in class rather than introduce new material. Teachers plan activities that encourage students to think deeply, practise key skills, and explore topics with curiosity.
What sorts of tasks will be set, and how frequently?
Homework may include Multiple Choice Questions, Quizzes, short written assignments, creative tasks, and revision activities.

Please be aware that these timings are only an approximate guideline.
How will homework be set and submitted?
All homework is set using our digital platform, Satchel One, which helps students and parents keep track of what has been assigned and when it is due. Satchel One can be accessed via the app, through a web browser, or from a link on our school website. Some subjects use additional platforms such as Sparx Maths and Sparx Science, which can also be accessed through Satchel One. Students can submit their homework directly online or, if they prefer working on paper, upload a photo of their work or bring it into school to be added to their class books.
Rewards and Recognition
We want homework to be a positive and rewarding experience. Students are recognised for their effort and commitment through House Points. Homework effort is also reported to parents and, at Key Stage 4, used to help inform teacher predictions. To ensure every student has the opportunity to succeed, our school library is open after school as a calm and supportive space where homework can be completed with access to computers, resources, and staff support.
At Milton Keynes Academy, we see homework not just as an extension of the classroom, but as a chance for students to take pride in their learning, explore their interests, and build the skills they need for the future.
