The Milton Keynes Academy’s mission statement is ‘Opportunities for Everyone’, we are able to provide an unequalled range of opportunities to provide our students with the employability skills and ‘Can Do’ attitude to be ready and able to take their next step to success, whether that is to higher or further education, employment with training or an apprenticeship.
We have set employability at the heart of what we do as a school and consult with our employer and education partners to understand the opportunities that are available to our students in the 21st century and to ensure that we as an institution are on track to prepare them for the world they are just about to enter.
The Academy has excellent relationships with major local employers who contribute to our many engagement activities and mentoring programmes. We use the expertise of professionals to hone the employability skills of our young people, to give them the ‘edge’ in the fast-changing and often challenging world of work.
Our Business Engagement Strategy
Our Business Engagement Strategy involves working in partnership with local employers to bring excitement and relevance to the curriculum by providing solutions to ‘real’ problems.
How you can be part of this exciting challenge?
If you would like to know more about our Business Engagement Strategy and our unique Employability Charter please click here. There are many ways that businesses can help to enrich our curriculum and support in making our young people work ready.
If you feel that either you or your company could contribute to our employability mission, either by giving a one-off informal careers talk through to setting a competition, or by being involved in a mentoring project, please download the Register of Employer Interest form here.
How do companies benefit from being involved with The Milton Keynes Academy?
It is not just a one-way relationship, over the past nine years employers have found their partnership with the Academy very useful:
Providing first class employees of the future
Giving opportunities for staff development e.g. practising presentation skills
Developing transferable skills in their less experienced staff e.g. mentoring
Understanding developments in education e.g. keeping up to date with changes in qualifications
Using the Enterprise Hub as a meeting and socialising venue
Providing an inspirational and engaging focus for corporate social responsibility activities
All Studio 6 students have an opportunity to volunteer in the community.
What can we offer you?
There may be community groups who would like a visit from our performing arts students? Could students help tidy up an area on one of the nearby estates or help coach younger children with sports? If you have any suggestions for this type of volunteering please email Deborah.Gockelen@miltonkeynesacademy.org.uk
The Academy has excellent facilities available to local people outside school hours. This includes the Enterprise Hub, a large airy space ideal for meetings, celebrations and events. For details about using the Academy as a venue for your event please email Deborah.Gockelen@miltonkeynesacademy.org.uk
At the Heart of the Community!
The Academy sees itself at the heart of a vital and diverse community and endeavours to provide students with the tools and opportunities to become active citizens. We have deepening relationships with our local community councils, faith and community groups.
Many of our students from all year groups get involved with community projects and we are always interested to hear good ideas about how they can help local people.
A group of students are currently working with local residents on a ‘Weaving Trust’ campaign, to break down barriers between generations and to bring the community together. We are working closely with Citizens:mk and the Leadenhall Residents Association to improve life in the local community. We have held two afternoon tea events to bring residents and students together in an informal atmosphere to chat about the things that matter to them, followed by a fun game of Bingo.
One of the major concerns, voiced by both residents and students was litter and so on a Saturday in June, students gave up their time to take part in a litter pick.
We are working with the Milton Keynes Rotary Association and have set up a successful student Interact Club, the first one in Milton Keynes. As with the adult Rotary Association, Interact’s mission statement is ‘Service Above Self’.
Students show they are capable of rising to the Shoe Box Challenge to benefit others less fortunate at Christmas.
Students have taken part in the Shoe Box Challenge and a Swimathon. They are currently planning a fundraiser for the End Polio Now Campaign.

From 16 August, children under of the age of 18 will no longer have to self-isolate if they are contacted by NHS Test & Trace as a close contact of a positive Covid-19 case. Instead, they will be advised to take a PCR test. Please report any confirmed Covid-19 positive test results to our dedicated Covid Alert email address below: email@example.com
Please find below important information about the Year 11 and 13 results day arrangements and details for the start of the new term in September. On their return to school in September, all students will be given the opportunity to take two Lateral Flow Tests on school site. It is clearly in the interests of the school and its community that as many students as possible take up this opportunity to be tested on their return to school. As the students will be taking the new Orient Gene LFD test, we need to ask all families to provide consent for the testing, which can be done via the link below.
