Bronze Award in Year 9 & 10
You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning.
At The Milton Keynes Academy we help you decide on the Volunteering, Physical, Skills sections first.
You are then enrolled onto the DofE and start an online record of your chosen activities.
Expedition preparation and practice takes place every Monday after school. We use a mixture of after school, Saturday and weekend sessions in the spring term.
Silver award in year 10/11 /12
The Silver DofE programme also has 4 sections, Volunteering, Physical, Skills and Expedition. You must do a minimum of 3 months activity for each of Physical and Skills sections with one of these for 6 months and the Volunteering section will take 6 months and plan, train for and do a 3 day (2 nights) Expedition.
You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning.
Cost:
We aim to keep this as low as possible . We currently charge £60 for the Bronze award (can be paid in stages) and £70 for the Silver award, this includes both expeditions and camping costs.
MKA can lend some kit to DofE students e.g. tents, cooking stoves, waterproofs etc., but we prefer students to purchase their own walking books
