Year 6 into Year 7 Summer Homework Pack

Key Stage 3

Pupils follow a coordinated, rolling programme of homework focused on supporting the development of foundational knowledge for each subject. Homework is set weekly for core subjects (Maths, English & Science) and every two weeks for all other subjects.

Individual tasks require students to recall the key facts, vocabulary and basic skills that are required for success in that specific subject. The foundational knowledge required for each term is posted to the school website [link still being prepared] in the first week of that term, enabling the students to revise and prepare in advance.

Retrieval Quizzes are completed online and will be automatically marked allowing students to receive instant feedback on their performance and areas that need further work. The objective in Key Stage 3 is to embed required knowledge in each student’s long-term memory so that it can easily be retrieved to support future learning.

Key Stage 4

In Year 10 and 11 homework will be set weekly for all subjects and switches towards developing the students’ ability to apply their knowledge and skills to GCSE-style problems. The exact format of homework will depend on the requirements of the individual subjects but is likely to include both online retrieval quizzing and written tasks. Each individual department will be responsible for managing its own approach to homework in Key Stage 4.
